A Journal of Restoration and Preservation: Skinned Knuckles
The magazine, Skinned Knuckles, is published monthly to help automotive enthusiasts who want to work on their own vintage automobiles avoid what the title acknowledges happens to those ill prepared. Its pages are filled with text, photos and illustrations designed to assist in the most difficult and arcane of tasks; written and prepared by people knowledgeable about what they’re explaining.
You’re as likely to get complete details on how to rebuild a Ford four-barrel carburetor as you are to get a complete history of the MGB or an inside look at the 1955 Pontiac. You might find a detailed piece on rebuilding the Ross cam-and-lever steering gear that goes into vehicles ranging from the Willys MB/Ford GPW military Jeep, to the IH Scout II and Studebaker trucks of the early-to-mid 1960s. Photos and drawings work well with the words.
Neil Maken took over publishing from founders Bill and (the late) Charlotte Cannon. Makken, who has kept the same eclectic, detailed approach learned as editor for 7 years, stated "a staff of experienced restorers provide a variety of topics and viewpoints that make our publication interesting and valuable reading."
A one year subscription if US is only $26 - in Canada it is $40 (US). For more information, www.skinnedknuckles.net
