LEMAY FAMILY COLLECTION FOUNDATION OPENS DOORS WITH FREE ADMISSION TO FURLOUGHED GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES AND AFFECTED JBLM COMMUNITY
In response to the current government shutdown, which has resulted in the temporary furlough of as many as 50,000 Washington state workers statewide, the LeMay Family Collection Foundation (LFCF) has announced the availability of free Marymount Event Center general admission to workers and their families affected by the recent government shutdown and accompanying furlough and work disruptions without pay.
Located in Tacoma, the LFCF Marymount Event Center—recently named an Official Best Of Washington® tourism destination—encompasses the LeMay family’s original world-famous collection of automobiles, Americana and folk art collection, doll collection, and the historic Marymount Chapel. As a neighbor and supporter of the Joint Base Fort Lewis | McChord Air Force Base (JBLM) community, the foundation’s programs have traditionally provided discounts and offerings to JBLM workers and their families in the past.
- However, in light of recent events and their still uncertain impacts and duration, LFCF hopes to provide an additional demonstration of appreciation and support—which now extends to all Washington state Federal/State workers affected by the Washington, D.C. impasse, budget restrictions, and shut-downs.
“If your status as a public employee has been affected—if you can’t go to work—we want you to know you’re welcome to spend your involuntary day(s) off at Marymount,” said LFCF Operations Director Trudy Cofchin. “For decades, we’ve benefited from the patronage, participation and support of these absolutely essential workers and contributors to our community. We want to show our support of their ongoing efforts on behalf of all of us.”
The limited time offer (which LFCF intends to continue until governmental operations are restored) extends to regularly scheduled activities, tours and collection visits to the foundation’s pastoral 87 acre campus during business hours. While the foundation depends upon admissions and visitor donations to sustain its mission and operations, no admission charges will apply to workers and families able to demonstrate or declare their employment status as an affected worker.
To assure the best possible experience and minimize potential waiting time, advance inquiries and reservations are highly recommended. Marymount Event Center’s campus and public operations are closed on Mondays.
In addition to this offer, Marymount offers a full-calendar and program of family-friendly automotive, arts, education, and cultural/community programs available on a by-invitation or by-registration basis.
